For Those Interested In Proper Attic Restoration After Damage Caused By Wildlife, Bats & Rodents and Air Sealing to prevent gaps for pests to enter home.
The purpose of an attic restoration is to replace and revive damage and insulation caused by an invasion caused by bats, birds, raccoon, squirrels, rodents and other vermin (critters), and to properly air seal gaps where pests like Brown Recluse Spiders can enter home.
The attic if left unrestored can become a dangerous breeding ground for various wildlife diseases that eventually can affect the health and welfare of every member of your home via airborne hazards of diseases such as raccoon roundworm and histomplasmosis.
Many invasions of homes additionally affect the homes wiring which often become chewed by members of the rodent family which often result in bare wires and can cause house fires. Heating and cooling ducts often become destroyed or filled with feces and /or can circulate these contaminants throughout your home.
Now here is the basic concept of a complete attic restoration, step-by-step!!
Exclusion- First and foremost, a wildlife control, bat or bird removal specialist performs a complete exclusion to guaranteeing no other vermin can re- enter and destroy the attic again. Sunflower Pest Solutions is your Kansas City, Olathe, Overland Park, Leawood, Leavenworth, Lawrence Wildlife Control Specialist.
Clean Up- Removal of contaminants, the dead animals, their feces and remove all the old soiled and matted insulation and dispose of properly. We use a high power gas vacuum to suck out all the old insulation and contaminants. We run a hose up to the attic and the machine sits outside so all contaminants are also outside.
Insecticide Treatment- Treat for insect infestations, which is common with most vermin. Fleas, Mites, Ticks and Bat Bugs often are part of the problem and come with the vermin when they claim your attic as a home.
Disinfect/Deodorize/Fix Wiring- Bring in a licensed electrician to replace all damaged wiring. Disinfect and deodorize the attic before any new insulation is added to the attic.
Blow-in New Insulation- Re-installing the insulation back to its original R rating or better. Having quality insulation will save the customers an unbelievable amount of money on their energy bills. We use a high quality Cellulose Pest Control Insulation that insulation contractors can’t buy, you have to have a pest control license to purchase it. This is nice because it not only insulates your home, but it KILLS BUGS! The US Dept. of Energy recommends R-49 or greater in Kansas City area attics.
Damaged Flex Ducts- We can also check for damaged flex ducts, and replace if needed. Raccoon, Squirrels, and Mice sometimes damage the ducts to get to either your cool air in the summer, or warm air in the winter. We can also foam duct work to create better heating and cooling efficiency. Ducts in attics get extremely hot in the summer, and cold in the winter. If you put a hot drink in a frozen cup you can see how this affects the air traveling through ducts.
Air Sealing- We can also air seal gaps, cracks, holes that allow hot and cold air to enter into your home. Some of these are from construction such as plumbing, and electrical penetrations but they need to be sealed up. We use foam to seal these gaps that expands and fills voids.
Foam Sill Plates- Sill plates are the area that rests on top of the foundation wall, in basements. These are a source of huge energy loss, and Brown Recluse spiders love this area. This area is also an area that rodents get in. We remove all the old fiberglass batt insulation if there is any, and them foam it up with a special foam that expands and fills these areas.
Thermal Imaging- We also have an Infrared Thermal Imaging Camera to look for areas where energy loss is the greatest. It can tell the exact temperature of an area
